Codes of Practice

ARTSA-i has a program for developing guidance material for the road transport industry.

Air suspension systems for multi combination vehicles

This Guide is intended to assist people involved in the design, construction and operation of multi-combination vehicles to better understand the:

  • basics of multi-combination vehicle dynamic stability
  • best-practice multi-combination vehicle design principles
  • set-up of suspensions for multi-combination vehicles
  • selection of suspension systems appropriate to the application
  • dynamic stability of multi-combination vehicles.

A copy is available for download from the ARTSA-i Electronic Library. It compliments the other air suspension guide also available in the library.

Performance Based Standards - PBS Explained

This is an industry guide to PBS and has been developed with assistance from the NTC. It explains the terms and gives practical examples of how PBS will apply in Australia. This is a free publication and can be downloaded from the ARTSA Electronic Library.

Code of Practice - designing vehicles for load restraint compliance

This code provides guidance on the design of vehicle structures for load restraint compliance. It provides guidance on how the certification of load restraint can be conducted and documented. It discusses the capability of curtainsider vehicles in providing primary load restraint. It is available as a free download from the ARTSA Electronic Library.

Air Suspension Code

The Air Suspension Code of Practice is a combined ARTSA-i and ATA initiative providing you and your workshop staff with practical technical information about air suspension systems and their associated maintenance procedures.

The Air Suspension Code of Practice is of a similar format to the Braking Code of Practice’s workshop manual and includes a quick reference checklist poster as part of the package.

Priced from only $27.50 (including GST) for a single copy to $20.00 each (including GST) for 10 or more copies. Copies can be purchased from the publishers PSA by telephoning 1800 649 578

A version of the Air Suspension Code can be downloaded from here. This is an Acrobat PDF file of approximately 6MB. It is also available on the ARTSA-i Electronic Library.

Brake Contact video

The Brake Contact video is also available for purchase through PSA on 1800 649 578. It is a practical, hands on guide to brake adjustment.

It is ARTSA-i’s intention to develop a library of information on technical codes so workshop managers and their staff are compliant with safe practice procedures in the workshop across a range of areas.
